Handwriting
At Hayfield, handwriting is taught once a week through discrete handwriting lessons following PenPals for Handwriting, these skills are then practiced throughout the week during other lessons.
Pupils work through the programme, learning to produce single letter formation before beginning cursive letter formation at stage 8.
Once working at stage 6, pupils begin to learn how to write letters on the line with the correct ascending and descending formation. This is taught using these terms to help pupils remember:
